Changes And Enhancements For Managed SSL

The changes and enhancements made for Managed SSL save a lot of time. It has eased the task of managing, verifying and renewing SSL certificates. With just a few clicks these tasks can be done easily without investing much time in locating the information related to domain or certificates.

Various Changes And Enhancements For Managed SSL
Most of the enterprises require more than one SSL certificate to fulfill their requirement. It becomes difficult to manage and keep track of every SSL certificate installed for various domains and sub-domains. With an increase in the number of certificates for various profiles, difficulty in managing them increases. Keeping a track of renewal, verification, status etc becomes difficult. To ease this task few changes and enhancements have been made, let us now discuss them one by one to get a clearer picture.

1. ‘Managed Domains & Profile’ page

Keeping our clients in mind, we have updated ‘Managed Domains and Profiles’ page to give them a more intuitive and easier interface. It will make it easier for our clients to manage their profiles as well as domains. This new User Interface (UI) will allow our clients to find various options related to the profile and domain easily. This improved layout contains various icons for common actions. Few of the changes are listed below to get a better idea:

• Design change in how profile information is displayed.
• Quick access to 'manage existing domain'
• Allowing an easy way to add a new domain
• Ease in requesting a public ordering page
• Editing profile with a click of a button

2. ‘Managed Domains’ Page

To display all the domains of a particular profile, a new page ‘Managed Domain’ has been created. This will help the user in managing their domains directly within a specific profile. This page will provide a more effective way to view and access domain information for any individual profile. Various things that the user can go through a ‘Managed Domain’ page are:

• Set permissions for a domain to control:

o Who can place orders

o Approval of orders

o Revoke certificates at the domain level

• Renewal

• Verification

• View status of all domains

This is important for website security too as only authorized and right employee can have access to domains within their scope of work.

3. ‘Domain order History’ page

What if you can get an option to filter the list of a domain within an account so that you get the exact information you are looking for? Will it be easier for you as a user? If yes, there is good news for you. With new Domain Order History page, you get a filtered list option (for all the orders for domains within an account) with the help of which you can view all the domains within an organization’s entire account. This filterable list can help the user in various things, such as:

• Setting permission
• Removing Domain
• Viewing the status of all domains

In a nutshell, Domain Order History page helps a user in reviewing the history and status of all the domains with the use of a filterable list and allows them to make a decision accordingly. All you have to do is, just click on the particular domain and full details of that domain will be in front of your eyes within no time. This list along with other details will also contain the following:

• Vetted profile it has been attached
• Registered point of contact details.

4. Enhanced Automated Domain Validation option
An organization can contain multiple profiles in a Managed SSL account. So, it is possible that different departments or even companies may exist under one SSL account. It is important to understand that each of these sub-divisions may have their own profile. These profiles normally contain unique enterprise data tied to a particular set of domains. Prior to the ‘Automated Domain Validation’ option, each of these organization profiles was manually verified. Not only profiles but every domain added to these profiles were also manually verified. This option has reduced the effort that was earlier put in for verification.

This option also allows the organization to prove domain validation of its own, which in turn allows them to issue certificates to the particular domain from that instance. This feature allows the user to set up a company profile that includes:

• Vetted company information which is verified by Vetting Department
• All the associated domain names

You may think that how this will help the user? The answer to this question is quite easy. By using this option, as discussed above, the organization can issue certificates of its own; this will eliminate the need for a verification process whenever a new certificate is issued.

Here in The SSL Street, we believe in giving the best services to our customers at a very nominal price. We believe in providing the best solutions to our clients for a smooth running of certificate lifecycle and management process. Not only this but we also take special measures to reduce time, effort and cost associated with managing multiple certificates. We have successfully made some changes and updates for better customer experience.

How Extended Validation(EV) & Wildcard Certificates Provide Multiple Layer Of Online Protection

SSL Certificate acts as a backbone of the Internet security system. It provides an encrypted link between a browser and a server, which helps in transferring or sharing data in encrypted form to keep the data integral and secure from falling in the wrong hands and from being misused. There are many types of SSL certificates available in the market, but it depends upon the requirement of the applicant, what level of SSL certificate would suit him the best. Higher the security required, higher the level of SSL certificate is needed. Various SSL certificates are divided into two groups on the basis of validation level and secured domains and sub-domains:

Validation level
Domain Validation aCertificate
Organization Validation Certificate
Extended Validation Certificate
Domain and sub-domain
Single Domain Certificate
Wildcard Certificate
Multi-domain Certificate

In this article, we will discuss Extended Validation Certificate (EV) and Wildcard certificate and how these certificates provide multiple layers of online protection.

EV SSL certificate:  EV stands for Extended Validation Certificate and it involves strict selection process of validation to make sure that the entity requesting for this certificate is legal and genuine. If a website is secured with a certified EV SSL certificate, it will be indicated by a Green colored address bar. Similar to Wildcard Certificate, Extended Validation Certificate is also used for websites prefixed with https:// and also for software that verifies legal entity, which controls the software package or website itself. To obtain EV Certificate, CA (Certification Authority) will verify the identity of the applicant and if the information provided by the entity is correct then the certificate is issued. Verification here is very important because EV certificate provides a higher level of security.

Wildcard certificate: If you own a domain and multiple subdomains, and you want to secure them all, instead of buying a certificate for every single domain and subdomain, you can buy Wildcard certificate, which will secure an unlimited number of subdomains but to a specific level. Along with providing security to multiple domains and subdomains, it will also save your time and money, which you would have wasted in buying and installing multiple certificates for every single domain and subdomain.

Technically, we can say that a Wildcard Certificate is a public key certificate and it can be used with numerous subdomains of a domain. The primary use of this certificate is to secure website prefixed with https://. A single Wildcard certificate works for your convenience and saves a lot of time, but it also protects or secures the main domain as well as its subdomain at the same time.

Google Prefers Wildcard SSL Certificate For Security- The SSL Street

Do you have Wildcard SSL certificate for your website? If you have not considered Wildcard SSL certificate yet, for your website, it is right time to do it because there are chances that Google might flag your website within a few months. The Internet is not an unfamiliar term and e-commerce businesses are new. But most of the merchants, running websites as a virtual market to sell products and services neglect customer security. Most of the websites require customers/web page visitor’s personal details in one or the other form. Let us understand it with the following:

Login page: Details required are Name & address
  • Mobile number
  • E-mail ID
  • Date of Birth
  • User ID & password
Membership Subscription form: Details required are
  • Name & address
  • Mobile number & E-mail ID
  • Credit card details
This information is very critical and can be misused if fallen into the wrong hands. With dominating trend of E-world, it has become essential to take special measures to provide Internet security and Google is in no mood of overlooking any loopholes that hinder it and is planning to flag unencrypted Internet by the end of this year.

The unsafe web is what Google is planning to get rid off and is looking forward to providing a secure Internet for its customers' security. If you're running a website without SSL certificate, get one or be ready for bad publicity as “Not secure” is the tag which will be displayed in your URL bar.

Why Google prefersWildcard SSL Certificate?

When it comes to internet security, it has become essential to use a wildcard SSL certificate because it not only secures a particular page or a home page but also sub-domains associated with it on a single certificate. It comes with unlimited server license & warranty as well as provides 99.9% of browser capability. In short Wildcard SSL certificate secures website URL. It is ideal for those who manage multiple sites on a single domain.

With the new version of chrome, SSL certificate has become mandatory for websites that require text input in form of the login page, contact form, subscription form etc. Else ‘Not secure’ warning will be issued to visitors of your site, which might deteriorate your business.

What is a Wildcard SSL Certificate?

SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer and is a security technology through which an encrypted link is established between a browser and a web server. It is due to an encrypted link that the data remain private and secure when interchanged between the browser and the server. Every SSL certificate contains the following information:

Name of the holder

Serial number & expiration date

Copy of public key

A digital signature of the issuing authority

Wildcard SSL certificate is one of the SSL certificates that provide multi-layer online protection. With a single wildcard certificate, you can secure multiple domains. This not only saves you from the horror of buying and installing certificates for each and every domain but also saves a lot of time that can be used elsewhere, productively.

Features of a Wildcard SSL Certificate-

1. Encrypts sensitive information: If the information is passed over the internet with encryption, it can be read easily and can be misused. Sensitive information like credit card number, net-banking information, username, and password should be transferred in unreadable form.

2. Provides protection from cyber-crime: Cyber-criminals are smart enough to identify any loophole- in your network and capture important & sensitive data before it reaches its destination. SSL certificate helps you defend against such black-eye masked people.

3. Builds trust and brand power: Lock icon and green address bar are the symbols of internet security. It provides assurance to the customer that the particular website is secure to use and he can share personal and sensitive information without hesitation. This will undoubtedly boost the credibility of the brand and add to the brand power.

If planning to buy Wildcard SSL certificate, don’t waste much time and get it today, before Google flags your website.

How To Install Intermediate SSL Certificate

Nowadays, every browser being so concerned about internet security, it may seem like you don’t need to worry about having an SSL certificate for your website. You may be completely wrong. Without properly installing intermediate SSL certificate, you are putting your site credentials as well as browser’s information at risk.  Without properly installing intermediate SSL certificate, you are putting your site credentials as well as browser’s information at risk. Now before going further, let us first understand ‘what is intermediate SSL certificate?’

Intermediate SSL Certificate

It is a subordinate certificate, which is issued and signed by the trusted root certificate. It is signed specifically to issue end-entity server certificate. This results in a certificate chain, which begins at the trusted root Certificate Authority (issuer), through the intermediate. This certificate chain ends with the SSL certificate issued by the end-user. In simple words, proper SSL chain links certificate of an end-user to a root certificate.

Major web browsers have a list of trusted root certificates, which is the foundation of SSL certificate. This list ensures that the SSL certificate being issued is valid and trustworthy. It is important to understand that root certificate do not sign every certificate. In such a situation, intermediate certificates come into play. Intermediate certificate falls in between the root certificate and the end-user SSL certificate. It is basically used to sign SSL certificate of end-user, which is used on a website and completes the digital SSL security chain.

Importance of Intermediate SSL Certificates

In case of missing intermediate SSL certificate, various browsers act differently. Whether you are accessing for mobile devices or desktops, every browser is designed to act differently in such cases. For example:

• Google Chrome will immediately go out and fetch a missing intermediate certificate.

•  Firefox will look for any saved intermediate certificate from another website or previous session.

•  Sometimes Firefox triggers security warnings, in case of missing intermediate certificates.

Testing Intermediate SSL Certificate after Installation

After successfully installing SSL certificate, it is important to check whether it has been installed properly and is working as required. ‘WHY NO PADLOCK’ service can check it for you. It:

•  Verifies validations of intermediate SSL certificate.

•  Verifies START and END DATES (checks whether the date is current and not expired).

•  Verifies whether the certificate is signed by a valid CA.

•  Verifies the SSL chain (all the certificates including intermediate certificate are installed properly).

•  Checks for allowed SSL Protocols.

Make Your Internet & Customer Data Secure With SSL Certificate

The necessity of SSL certificate and web encryption is increasing day-by-day with the increasing use of the web for financial services and important communication. According to experts, soon will come the day when the entire web will be secured by an SSL certificate.

When we access the internet, the connection between the server and various computer system is involved. When we transfer data, it travels over various networks until it reaches its destination. If server security is neglected, there are chances that the data will be transferred or hacked or misused.
On SSL secured websites, it is impossible to replace its contents without authority. It makes it difficult for hackers to download malware through SSL protected websites. Due to this reason, most of the big players in the virtual world have switched to HTTPS:// from HTTP://.

Although, as individuals, we do take some sort of security measures like firewalls, antivirus that is not enough. It is basically a one-sided security solution. But neglecting server-side security will be a big blunder. When we access the internet, the connection between the server and various computer system is involved. When we transfer data, it travels over various networks until it reaches its destination. If server security is neglected, there are chances that the data will be transferred or hacked or misused.

Importance of SSL certificate & web encryption

There are cases where hackers managed to crack a legitimate non-secure Wi-Fi network using special software or bugs inside a router. This may worry you but there is a solution to everything and in this case, using HTTPS protocol is the best solution to avoid such incidence to occur.

HTTPS certificate ensures a secure and encrypted connection as it offers point-to-point encryption. You may wonder what it means and how it protects your data. Well, point-to-point encryption means that all the data being transferred is encrypted using a strong encryption algorithm before sending to the destination server. By using a special key, which is shared only with the destination server, the encrypted data can be decrypted. No other machine can decrypt the data.

How SSL Certificate Makes The Internet Safer?

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a protocol using high-level encryption to provide security to the data being transferred over the net. This does not mean that the third party cannot access your data. They can access your data but in encrypted form only. This is so because it cannot decrypt or convert it into readable form without the special key (used for decryption).

A set of protocols is used to provide high-level security to the data being transferred over the net. These protocols are:

1. HTTP
2. SSL
3. TCP

Together it makes a strong protocol, commonly known as HTTPS protocol. Data before being sent to its destination is encrypted by SSL and then sent over the web via TCP/IP. SSL is compatible with other protocols, therefore works well without affecting their working.

Apple Has Proclaimed Updates Of OS & Network Security Standards (SSL/TSL certificates)

SSL Certificate is very important when it comes to Internet security or website security. To keep the sensitive information of user/customer or organizational credentials secure, SSL certificate plays an important role. Secure Socket Layer (SSL) being a standard security protocol, establishes an encrypted link between browser and server to secure content from falling into wrong hands of the hacker. Comodo is cybersecurity platform providing best SSL certificate, naming Comodo SSL. Comodo provides the most reliable Comodo SSL certificate, which has enabled it to maintain its #1 rank in the world.

Apple has proclaimed updates of OS and Network security standards (SSL/TSL certificates) for a better and safer experience for users of Apple products. It has initiated significant improvements regarding the SSL certificates in a new updated operating system.

During the annual WWDC (World Wide Developers Conference), Apple proclaimed updates of:

1. OS (Operating Systems) for its devices:

High Sierra for iOS, macOS, and watchOS
New hardware:-
iPad Pro
HomePod smart speaker

2. Advancement in network security standards

SSL/TLS support
Cryptographic libraries

Improved SSL/TSL Support

SHA-1 signed certificate: Many web browsers have stopped supporting SHA-1 signed certificates considering its vulnerabilities. As per Apple’s latest updates:

  • Apple has decided to end SHA-1 support in its new operating systems.
  • SHA-1 signed root certificates will continue to be supported.
  • Private keys less than 2048 bits will no longer be trusted.
  • Client certificate as well as SSL certificates, which are shared through Mobile Device Management, will continue to be supported.

TLS 1.3: IEFT (Internet Engineering Task Force) is unable to finalize the TLS1.3 draft. But Apple has officially declared that it would provide support for TLS 1.3 draft specification in High Sierra and iOS 11.

  • This will facilitate developers to test TLS 1.3.
  • Apple had also mentioned that TLS 1.3 will offer drastically fast handshake time. This time will be just 1/3rd of the existing TLS connection speed.

Various web browsers which enabled TLS 1.3 are:

  • Firefox: Mozilla enabled TLS 1.3 in its Firefox web browser by default in the year 2017.
  • Google chrome: Due to compatibility issues, Google Chrome has disabled it after a short period of use.

Improved SSL Revocation Checking

New revocation checking method has been introduced by Apple. As there were certain issues faced in checking certificate revocation, it was the right time when this enhancement was introduced. Certain issues were noticed by experts and have raised questions about the revocation process that is currently used. These issues were:

  • SSL certificate has been compromised to contacting the CA (Certification Authority) for revoking
  • The problem in communicating with the client about the revoked SSL certificates.

At the time SSL /TSL connection is initiated by a client, a centralized list of SSL certificate revocation is checked. The connection is established only if the certificate is not revoked. Otherwise, revocation status is confirmed.

How To Speed Up Your SSL Enabled Websites?

As we know, on one hand, SSL certificate provides internet security, which is important for improving web ranking but, on the other hand, it also affects the website performance by slowing it down. For a website owner, it is necessary to provide internet security to its client to gain trust and loyalty and there is no alternative other than SSL certificate because of benefits provided by SSL Certificate. If a user of the website looks for a secure site, he also looks for a site that does not take long to upload. A user wants fast results without compromising security. So technology is required, which enhances the performance of the website without bargaining security.

How does SSL Certificate Work?

SSL certificate works as a backbone of internet security. It provides a link between the web browser and the server so that the data can be transferred between the two in an encrypted form, which cannot be read and modified easily. when needing to log in our personal details or do any financial transaction, we want to be sure that our information will not fall in wrong hands and will be received by the host without being modified. To ensure that, we normally prefer a website with SSL certificate, in other words, site with https:// prefix.

How to Speed It Up?

The solution to this problem is CDN (Content Delivery Network). What CDN does is, it places a network of Proxy cache server. This server stores the most searched content of your website so that it can be delivered to browsers effectively and efficiently. As the content of the website is stored it needs space for storing "particular" content. As most searched content is stored, the distance is reduced for that particular data to travel between server and browser.

Now whenever anybody around the world pings for a quick response, CDN picks up the proxy cache server, which is located nearest to the browser geographically, increases the speed and performance of the website, significantly. Therefore, we can say that using CDN technology along with an SSL certificate can enhance the performance of your website and provide security at the same time.

Five Straightforward Ways To Make Your Website More Secure

Website security is a topic that is constantly important yet ordinarily doesn't feel urgent. Why? Indeed, if your site isn't having security issues, it's really simple to put it out of your mind. Yet, doing as such resembles riding a bicycle without a helmet. It feels freeing to have the breeze blowing through your hair, yet when you end up face down in a fix of unforgiving concrete, you'll quickly forget your need for "freedom."

1. Use Strong Admin Passwords

Here and there we miss the obvious with regards to security. In the case of passwords, however, it should be clear to utilize solid ones, it's surprising how basic weak passwords are. Ensure passwords are anything but difficult to recall, but on the other hand, they're too simple to hack utilizing procedures like brute force attacks.

2. Pick A Solid Website Host

When it comes to hosting, the temptation is to run with the cheapest solution that hits the minimum necessities. When you think about that, for some sites, you can pay dollars every month for hosting, it's straightforward the allurement. Be that as it may, we're discussing your organization site, perhaps one of the most important marketing assets you have. Don't squabble over an extra $30 or $40 per month; instead, focus on security and features when you're reviewing hosting options.

3. Keep Your Website Software Up To Date

Like whatever else throughout everyday life, software isn't impeccable. It needs time to develop and once in a while in the developing procedure, bugs and vulnerabilities can surface. Given the correct conditions, these vulnerabilities can give pariahs access to your site to don't so-beneficial things.

Along these lines, much the same as drains, vehicles, streets, and railroads, CMS stages need normal upkeep to keep them running easily.

4. Utilize A SSL Certificate

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificates are very useful for security and by and generally pretty easy to set up. Basically, an SSL certificate will give your site a safe connection when transmitting information on the internet. Rather than information moving forward and backward in what's known as "plain content," an SSL certificate will safely scramble that information.

5. Restrict Admin Logins To Specific IPs

Another incredible layer of security can come through limiting your organization entrance to specific IPs or IP ranges. Envision being physically present at your organization headquarters so as to sign in to your site. This sort of limitation can do ponders, as you aren't just blocking potential aggressors from over the wonders, but on the other hand, you're constraining access from over the street.

SSL Certificate Encrypted Security

SSL certificate establishes an encrypted link in online communication between the server and the browser. To create an SSL connection, an SSL certificate is mandatory. SSL certificate is issued either to companies operating online or to legally accountable individuals. To be able to activate SSL certificate, a business owner needs to provide details about the identity of his website and the business, such as domain name, the name of the business, physical address (including the name of the city & country) etc. Once the certificate is uploaded, two cryptographic keys are created; these are a Private Key and a Public key. These keys are used to encrypt and decrypt data, thus provide security to data that is being transferred over the web.

There are a variety of SSL certificates available in the market but it is important to opt for an authorized certificate as it provides critical identity assurance that is important to establish trust between business and client. When dealing with e-commerce, a business must address to minimize risk and provide a secure way of collecting data from the client. When purchasing products and services online, a customer submits details like credit card number, phone number etc. These details should be retrieved in a secure and integrated manner. For this, business should implement a complete e-commerce trust infrastructure based on encrypted technology.

Encryption Technology

Encryption is a process of converting data to make it unintelligible to all unauthorized parties except the one who is an intended recipient. In this way, data integrity and data privacy can be maintained which has become essential for e-commerce. In simple words, we can say that encryption technology is used to convert data into a non-readable form and secure it from unauthorized parties and is received by the intended recipient in intelligible form. Main responsibilities performed by encryption technology are:

To put data(file) into code

Changing data into an unreadable form (unintelligible) using secret code

To prevent accurate interpretation of data by the third party

What SSL certificate encrypted security provides?

Authenticity:

This can be explained in two parts. The first part is server authentication and another is client authentication. Let’s discuss them one by one in detail.

Server authentication: Server along with data transfers public key, which is used by the client to encrypt data used to compute the secret key. The server can decrypt data and generate a secret key only if it has a valid private key.

Client authentication: In this, the server uses the public key, provided in the client’s certificate, to decrypt data sent by the client. If the exchange of message is complete by using a secret key to encrypt, it confirms the authentication.

If in any case authentication step fails or is not complete, the session is terminated between the browser and the server.

Confidentiality:

To ensure message privacy, SSL uses a combination of symmetric and asymmetric encryption. For every session, a unique set of encryption algorithm and a shared secret key is used, ensuring the privacy of message even in case of interception.

How Do Wildcard SSL Certificates Work?

SSL Certificate is used to get a secure connection between a server and a browser while transferring sensitive data to avoid misuse of data being shared or transferred. There are different levels of certification validation. Few are listed below:

Extended Validation Certificates
Organization Validated Certificates
Domain Validated Certificates

Wildcard SSL Certificate

In this article, we will talk about the Wildcard SSL Certificate. SSL certificate safeguards data from a third party by ensuring secure link/connection between a server and a browser. But, when it comes to securing all sub-domains along with main domain, the Wildcard SSL certificate is needed. Workings of both the certificates, i.e. SSL Certificate as well as Wildcard SSL certificate is almost the same with only one major difference and that is Wildcard SSL Certificate not only provides security to the main domain but also, to all other sub-domains linked to the main domain irrespective of SSL certificate, which provides security to only the main domain.

Working of Wildcard SSL Certificate
  • When an organization applies for Wildcard SSL Certificate, it means that it owns multiple website or subdomains.
  • When CA (Certification Authority) issues a certificate, the organization must ensure that all subdomains are associated with the main domain else it will affect the level of security.
  • Once the validation of the domain and the subdomain is checked, Wildcard SSL Certificate will provide the same level of security to the main domain and all other subdomains associated with it.
  • Wildcard SSL Certificate will look for all the possible subdomain names and will provide security to them. For example, a Wildcard SSL Certificate is issued to *.mybusiness.com, where ‘*’ represents all the subdomains associated with the main domain and in return Wildcard SSL Certificate will provide security to all the possible subdomains suffixed ‘.mybusiness.com’

SSL Encryption For Smartphones

Most of the business owners are working towards the development of their websites so that it can be viewed on each device; tablets, smartphones, desktops, etc. If business owners fail to provide such compatible websites, they will end up losing a large portion of revenue. On the other hand, CA’s (Certification Authorities) are concerned about smartphone security and are working on the solutions that are compatible with every existing version of a website. Majority of CA vendors have adopted such technologies by now, like:

1. Use of ‘mobile code signing credentials’ to keep hackers away
2. Some of the CA vendors have also implemented SSL certificate to meet security issues
3. Digital Signatures (still in beta stage)

SSL Certificate For Smartphones

Working of SSL (Secure Socket Layer) certificate is the same for every computing device. Let it be smartphone, tablet or desktop; SSL certificate in each case solves the purpose of providing Internet security. With SSL certificate, smartphone users can enjoy optimal protection while surfing the internet but this is only applicable if the certificate is compatible with the smartphone you are using else the user will receive an error message. Note that the certificates that support microbrowsers are compatible with smartphones and around 99% of the SSL certificates are smartphone compatible.

Using SSL Certificate For Smartphones

SSL certificate is mandatory for website security as it helps in protecting data (private, sensitive and important information) from unknown and unauthorized third parties. When indulged in online business, customer’s security should be the priority and if your website is secure enough it will encourage your customers to transact with your company. This will not only help you retain customers but also build customer loyalty and business goodwill.

The Key Points To Secure Online Transactions Are:

SSL secure Site seal: It is a visual stamp and is displayed on the home page of the website. This site seal signifies security, credibility, and reliability. Secured transactions and data security are indicated by displaying it on the website. In other words, we can say that it is safe to transmit your personal data on the sites having ‘SSL secure site seal’.

Green address bar: EV green address bar is enabled for every site that has an Extended Validation SSL certificate. This green address bar gives visual assurance of Internet security. This helps in gaining the trust of customers and also affects the conversion rate of the site.

High level of encryption: Algorithms are used to encrypt data, which is then transferred through an encrypted link to provide high-level security. Encryption algorithm converts data into a non-readable form, which is not easy to understand, which further makes data transfer via Internet secure.

SSL certificate for security and data transfer is beneficial for both, the customer as well as the online merchant. Beside SSL certificate security, most of CA vendors also provide technical support and back up (in some cases) which helps in enhancing security protection level.

An SSL certificate is explicitly intended to make clients feel safe when they use a website on the internet.

It enables data to go through a secure channel inside two machines which exchange information on an unsecured network which could be web or internal network. It decreases the risks of cybercrimes and sites that don't utilize SSL certificates may confront potential damage to the brand.

There are three keys used to verify the connection. Public keys, private keys and session keys. Anything which is encoded with the general society key must be decoded by the utilization of the private key and vice versa. At the point when this activity happens a symmetric session key is made and it is then used to encode the information transmitted from the site once the safe association is built up.

SSL certificate picks up gain quality to your site. The primary reason that visitors want to utilize the site with a green lock is that the SSL Certificate offered by a web facilitating provider. Digital Certificate For Website Security

Digital Certificate: A digital certificate is, pretty much, an identification card or you can say an electronic card that affirms or confirms the online transaction as well as another authentication on the internet. When we install a certificate, two keys are generated; one is a public key and another is a private key. People in general key is issued by Certification Authority (CA) on e-commerce sites, email, finance related sites or emails though Private Key is required to decrypt the data transferred or shared.

Purpose Of Digital Certificates

Security is the primary reason for these digital certificates. When we work online and sign in our details, make a financial transaction, security is the primary thing that comes into our mind. Before we share information, we check for the reliability of that website. However, how might we make certain that our information is exchanged safely? To build trust website owner opt for SSL certificate. To ensure information is exchanged safely when the SSL certificate is issued, two keys (Public and private) are issued alongside it. The public key is connected alongside the electronic message for security purposes. A digital certificate checks the client, whom she or he is professing to be and giving the message sent to the receiver alongside people in general key safely and with an approach to encoding a reply. The message sent is in encoded structure and once it achieves its goal, the private key is required to decrypt information in readable form. This encryption and decryption of information guarantee web security.

Importance Of Digital Certificate

Digital certificates are quite important; let us discuss them in details one by one:

• Communication Security: Digital certificate is attached along with e-mail or electronic message in order to provide security and authentication. When we communicate via electronic media, it becomes important that the information is shared between the parties it is meant for and cannot be accessed by any other third party. For such a secure communication we need a digital certificate, which ensures reliable communication.

• Online Banking: The internet has indeed made our life easier; instead of going to the bank for every single work, we can simply log in to the bank’s site and check our banking, make transactions, transfer money etc. Customers prefer the digital certificate issued by reputed CAs when we are dealing with the financial transition. These certificates ensure the user or customer a higher level of trust concerning the integrity of data, an additional level of protection and a higher level of security for data being shared or any financial transaction made.

• E-commerce: Most of the people in today’s world shop online due to their hectic lifestyle, but they always look for secure and reliable websites to shop as information provided by the customer is sensitive and can be misused. To create a safe and secure environment for customers to shop, a website owner needs an SSL certificate.

• Prevent Online Threats: To safeguard your data, which you provide at the time of login or when you sign-in, Certification Authority (CA) issues a public key, which monitors the receiver and sender in such a way that your information cannot be stolen by any other third party. The information shared can contain your address, birth date, locality, license etc.

If you need more information regarding Digital Certificate. Give us a call on +1 (888) 606-7330. We will also help you to provide Comodo SSL Certificate for domain and sub-domain to secure your online business website.

An Easy Guide To Understand Difference Between SSL, TLS, SSL Certificate And HTTPS

If you are technically not very sound and do not understand most of the terms used, then this article is specially written for you. In this article, we will discuss SSL, TSL, SSL certificate, and HTTPS in detail, and in a language which is easy to understand.

SSL: In simple words, SSL is a technology which safeguards information, which is being transferred from one system to another from hackers or any other third party by creating an encrypted link between the two systems. This link has to be secured so that no hacker can misuse or modify the information or data. To achieve this kind of security, data has to be encrypted to make it impossible to read. With the help of this encrypted link, the data transferred between the browser and the server or, in some cases, one server to another remains safe and secured.

SSL Certificate: To get a secure connection or SSL connection between the browser and server, there is a need for SSL certificate. The information SSL Certificate carry is a domain name, company/organization name, and complete address along with the country name. Along with these details, additional information that the certificate contains is the date of expiration, which thoroughly depends upon the tenure you have opt for, and CA (Certification Authority) details. CA is the entity, which is responsible for issuing SSL Certificate

Whenever a browser makes a connection with the server, it checks the SSL certificate of that particular site and its expiration date. Along with this, the authenticity of the Certification Authority (CA) is also verified.

TLS: TLS stands for Transport Layer Security. It is similar to SSL but is more secure. In simple words, it is an updated version of SSL. However, SSL is the most commonly used term, so if you bought latest SSL and want to go for TLS instead, you don’t have to spend a single penny because most probably the latest SSL which you already have is actually a TLS certificate.

HTTPS: When we talk about the word ‘secure’ we mean encryption (converting data into a non-readable form). When we use the internet, a wide amount of data is shared. The data can contain personal details, bank account details, credit card details, confidential data or sensitive data. When we share this data online via login forms, online shopping, banking or by any other means, our preference is to transfer data in such a way that it does not fall into wrong hands, is misused or modified.

Smartphones Advanced Features Can Protect Your Privacy

Nowadays maximum people around the world are using Smartphones. Along with making calls, Smartphones are used for various other things like sharing photos, making video calls, checking bank details, shopping online, playing games, texting etc. It is like a mini computer for your pocket.

As the use of smartphones is increasing, it has become important to protect the data, which is stored in it and more importantly to maintain your privacy. We need to save our smartphones from hackers, malicious software and intruders, especially in the cases where your phone is stolen or lost.

When we buy a smartphone, it comes with some inbuilt features and by using these advanced settings, one can keep the information and data secure but along with it, we also need to keep following security features in mind:

  • Security Application: When we install more than one application in our phone, it becomes very hard to understand and overview which application is granted with what kind of permission that might hinder internet security. But there are quite a few good security applications available for smartphones that can help in such situations like McAfee. These security tools can alert you against applications which might contain the virus.
  • Application installation: New exciting applications are launched on a daily basis by someone or the other, but be careful before downloading any application as most of them ask for permissions to have the access to your files, pictures, etc. There are high chances of data being misused in such cases. So it is advisable to read the reviews of the application before installing them in your smartphone.

  • Software updates: Every Company tries to update their software on a regular interval, so it is important to update your smartphone and install updated software whenever it is available in order to protect it from hackers.
  • Passcodes: Passcodes are a very common technique used nowadays to protect your phone from being misused. Passcodes can be 4 to 6-digit passwords, fingerprints, face recognition or any pattern. Although this method is not 100% secure, it is a simpler way to protect your phone from unauthorized access. Best way to make optimum use of this feature is keeping your phone locked when not using it. Tracking phone application: Few mobile companies also provide features like tracking your phone, erasing data if the phone is stolen, locking the phone if many unsuccessful attempts are made while entering the passcode and so on. All these methods help in protecting the data from falling in wrong hands. Individual application lock: As discussed above, Passcode is not the best security technique, so it is a good idea to use a passcode or lock for every single application, which contains personal information, or important data, which will act as a second layer of security.
  • Tracking phone application: Few mobile companies also provide features like tracking your phone, erasing data if the phone is stolen, locking the phone if many unsuccessful attempts are made while entering the passcode and so on. All these methods help in protecting the data from falling in wrong hands.

How Does SSL Connection Work

SSL certificate is a small data file that contains data like organization name, country name, a primary domain, sub-domains, expiration data, CA etc, which is provided by the owner of a website at the time of loading SSL certificate. In return, a single IP address is issued to that website, which in turn serves main domain as well as linked sub-domains. It means that it will not only provide internet security to the main domain but also, to other sub-domains which are linked with the main domain.

It is important to know that every single browser can interact with the secure web server; all it requires to have a secure connection between the two is SSL Certificate, which can be easily downloaded from the internet by simply following the instructions and filling some details required.

Need for SSL Connection
In normal cases, data is transferred or shared in simple text form, which gives an advantage to hackers to misuse or modify it easily, which is a big security threat. To overcome this, SSL provides an encrypted link, which converts the data into a non-readable form, and then this encrypted data is transferred between the server and the browser through a secure link that nullifies the risk of data being hacked. To get this kind of security, all you need is the SSL Certificate.

How SSL Certificate Provides Security

SSL certificate has a pair of keys; one is a public key and another one is a private key. To establish a secure/encrypted connection, these keys work together. This certificate also contains the identity of the owner and in technical language, it is known as SUBJECT. CSR (Certificate Signing Request) must be created to get an SSL certificate, which in return creates a set of keys (public and private key). Then CSR data file that contains public key is sent to CA (Certificate Authority). This data file is used for creating a data structure to match private key but due to security reasons, CA can never see the private key.

Once the certificate is issued by CA, install it on your server. When the installation of SSL certificate is complete, this server certificate is connected with CAs certificate in order to establish reliability and credibility of SSL certificate. It is important to buy an SSL certificate from an authorized or trusted Certificate Authority (CA) because most of the browsers come with a pre-installed list of trusted CAs and will only acknowledge them. So the user can trust the site with Comodo SSL certificate and can feel free to share private and sensitive information required by that particular site

An Overview of Certificate Authority Authorization

Certificate Authorities (CAs) is a powerful entity whose job is to make sure that every single SSL certificate is authorized by using different methods of domain validation. It is normally done by linking the particular SSL certificate with a particular website using a particular domain. But the CA should be listed as an authorized issuer of the certificate. As CAA specify which CAs are genuine and are allowed to issue a certificate for a domain, it helps in preventing or minimizing chances of hacking or misusing SSL certificate.

How to create CAA record

In order to create a CAA record, DNS (Domain Name System) provider has to be contacted. List of CAs that you prefer should be provided so that unauthorized CAs can not issue SSL Certificates to your domain. If you did not provide with your preferred list of CAs, it automatically gives the right to every single CA to issue an SSL certificate to your domain, which can result in misuse of your domain by any other party.

Benefits of CAA
  • It helps in preventing illegal or unauthorized issuance of Comodo SSL certificate.
  • An organization is also helped by limiting CAs they use.
  • The site owners are also benefited as they can now specify which Certificate Authorities (CAs) have the authority to issue an SSL certificate to their domain name.
  • All the CAs have to check for the authenticity before issuing SSL certificate.
Need for CAA

As benefits of Certificate Authority Authorization (CAA) are clear, the next thing that hits our minds is “Do I need CAA?”. The answer is very clear…YES, we very much need CAA. As we know CAA records are used to check the authenticity of CAs i.e. which CA is authorized to issue SSL certificate as well as it provides an immense amount of security from hackers. It also gives rights to the domain owner to exclude a particular CA. CA can’t issue any Comodo SSL certificate without authentication. In other words, we can say that CAA can bring down the risk of issuing the SSL certificates by unauthorized Certificate Authorities (CAs).

For any domain, CA can issue a certificate and with an increase in HTTPS, there is an increase in SSL certificates. To put control over this, a powerful approach was required. An approach that could not only decrease the risk but put a stop on miss-issuance of SSL certificates. CAA is designed to stop unauthorized issuance of SSL certificates.

Understand About Free And Proper SSL Certificate

Nowadays Internet security is a major concern of all Internet users, whether you are a client or a website owner. This concern is due to an increase in internet threats on daily basis. To ensure security, SSL certificate plays a major role and gives confidence to users to share data over the Internet without being worried about data being hacked or misused. There are certain points that should be kept in mind before going for SSL certificate. Whether you should opt for free SSL certificate or a proper SSL certificate, it is important to know the difference between the two.
  • If you are looking for SSL certificate, either you can buy one from CA (Certification Authority) or you can get it on a trial basis for free. The good part of using a free version of SSL certificate is that you can use it while testing your website at an initial stage or even if you want to test your e-mail system. As soon as your website is ready to use, it is advisable to install a proper SSL certificate.
  • Free version is available for a time period less than one year or a maximum of one year, whereas proper Comodo SSL certificate is available for a time span of 1-3 years.
  • When using a free SSL certificate for e-mail system, the main hassle you have to go through is to change it every single month, which is very inconvenient. Whereas, if you install a proper SSL certificate, once the setup is done, you can use it as long as you have opted for.

As we have compared both the free SSL certificate and proper SSL certificate, in case you want to choose a Free SSL Certificate for the initial stage of our website, there are two options available:

Comodo Trial SSL
Rapid SSL trial

What’s good, what’s bad?
  1. The good thing about trial SSL Certificate is that it is absolutely free of cost. Along with being free, it works exactly like normal SSL certificates.
  2. Of course, it provides an encrypted link, which is essential for internet security, but an authentication form is very low. It means that your site is not 100% secure.
  3. Free SSL certificate is also not recommended for emails as the email may contain highly sensitive data, which can fall into wrong hands.
  4. Proper SSL certificate comes with a warranty, but it is not the same case with Free SSL Certificate. Neither it has a green address bar i.e. no trust seal. So, before going for either of it, understand your requirements and choose accordingly.
